The Chopping Block Tavern
116 E. Main St.
Monroe, Wa
360-794-5003

Owner Annie Arndt has owned the Chopping Block since April 4th, 1978. This historic building
in downtown Monroe was lost in a fire in 1901, and rebuilt in 1902. There were some changes as
the bar has served thousands of clients over the years. Once having a saw dust floor, the building
became modernized with hard wood floors and a resturant. The Chopping Blocks rowdy past still
haunts today from the Card Room of the past, to the Clients of today, those who visit the tavern
get a feeling that the past is still with them.

I became interested in investigating this building after the death of a friend who passed under
suspicious circumstances in December 2005. His spirit weighed heavily around Annie and myself over
the next couple of months. Several Evergreen members and guest psychic Francine set up an early morning
investigation to primarily help this friend move on.

Equipped with audio, digital recorders, digital cameras and camcord, we arrived just before the 2 am
closing. We told Francine nothing about what and who we were looking to contact. Because I also brought
my husband who was also good friends with the deceased, and played in bands with him, Francine had a
difficult time getting our friend to speak with her. He spent most of his time around Annie, my husband
and myself trying to talk to us.

I experienced several equipment failures during the course of the investigation. We find that ghosts and
spirits need energy to manifest, so we attributed the failures to this.
During the course of the morning, we acquired several photos that may or may not prove any paranormal
phenomena, and one possible evp. Because the Chopping Block has many bright objects, and banners around,
its difficult to fully examine whether these photos are credible.
Our attempts to usher our friend over, did not work at this time as we felt he had unfinished business.
